Example: Student named ‘XYZ’ scores the below given marks:

The student ‘XYZ’ will be getting Grades and Grade points
for the respective subjects as:

In CBCS, each subject is assigned with its weightage known as CREDITS which is specified in the syllabus copy of the course. For this example we assume the CREDITS for each subject as:
Subject |
Subject1 |
Subject2 |
Subject3 |
Subject4 |
Subject5 |
Subject6 |
Credit Points |
4 |
4 |
5 |
5 |
3 |

Now, the Earned Grade Points for each subject for student ‘XYZ’ can be calculated as:
Earned Grade Points = CREDIT of the subject X Grade Points obtained by the student in that subject.

GPA = TOTAL of Earned Grade Points / TOTAL of Credit Points GPA = 204 / 25 = 8.16
Hence the student ‘XYZ’ in this case gets an SGPA = 8.16.
Next, based on the GPA the overall GRADE is assigned to the student using:
GPA Range |
Grade Letter |
Description |
9 to 10 |
0 |
Very Excellent |
8 to 8.99 |
A+ |
Excellent |
7 to 7.99 |

6 to 6.99 |

5 to 5.99 |
B |
Satisfactory |
4 to 4.99 |
C |
unSatisfactory |
0 to 3.99 |
F |

Since the GPA is 8.16 for ‘XYZ’, the student will get GRADE ‘A+’.
Here SGPA = 8.16 since it is calculated for one semester. The CGPA will be the aggregate of SGPA of all semesters.
